Groupon’s Super Bowl ad made the news and not in the good way since it made a joke at the expense of Tibet’s treatment by the Chinese. Apologies were made. Groupon now knows better, right?
Here is what Groupon has to say about Q’s Chinese Restaurant, in Columbia (emphasis mine):
At some point, every country builds a Great Wall to keep the secret of its cuisine from spreading to foreign nations, only to find that the real wall lies in its heart. Tear down the Great Wall of painful secrets with today’s Groupon to Q’s Chinese Restaurant.
So, one of China’s “painful secrets” is its food, totally on par with other things.
It’s also a stupid metaphor.
